PS5 Will Run 4K At 240FPS, Out In 2019 Says Analyst Ps5 144hz
If there is a big rumor for the PlayStation 5 it would be the latest news on it, with the PS5 rumored to not just hit 4K, but be capable of driving it at 240FPS. Ridiculous, right?
, something that would help drive 4K 60FPS... but 4K @ 240FPS Is an entirely new game. There's no amount PC hardware available that will easily drive 4K @ 240FPS, especially not a mainstream console.
Well, Wedbush Securities analyst Michael Patcher has said that the PS5 Pro will be backwards compatible with both PS4 and PS4 Pro games, and it'll be here in 2019. Patcher was recently interviewed by Gaming Bolt, where he said: "I really like Shawn and I don't think he is attempting to mislead anybody. The PlayStation 4 Pro is better [from a technical perspective] than the PS4, so I think that's a half step towards the PlayStation 5".
"I think the PS5 will be another half step. So he is being honest when he said he is not doing a half step but the PlayStation 5...how much faster can it be? It will surely support 4K. Will it support 240 frames per second? Great. Will it play games that were made for the PlayStation 4 PRO? That's the question. I think it will. So I think they will build a console that will backwards compatible with the PS4 Pro. So I think it will be perceived by the consumers to be a half step and I think Shawn is telling the truth when he says it's will be a full fledged console".
Patcher underlines the fact that he PS5 won't be here in 2018, where he continued: "My expectation that is that it's not coming out in 2018. That is a 2019 0r 2020 but probably 2019. Sony is probably timing it better because they are going to bring out a 4K capable device when the 4K TV market reaches 50% in the USA and 35% in the rest of the world. I think Sony has probably got the next console cycle nailed down already. I think, they already know what they got to do".
Now... 4K @ 240FPS... I don't think so. 4K @ 60FPS, for sure. 240FPS support at 1080p... that makes more sense. But there are no 240Hz-capable TVs, and only a small handful of 240Hz-capable eSports-minded LCD displays on the market right now.
I really don't see 4K 240FPS becoming a thing for at least another few years, and definitely not in the console space - unless Sony has completely changed its stance and wants to not just compete against Microsoft and their upcoming Xbox One X, but blow it out of the water.
